Tessa Butterfield is a freshman this year attending and playing volleyball for San Diego City College. She is from Grass Valley, which is up in Northern California and fell in love with San Diego when she came down here for her official school visit. She has been playing volleyball year around since she was in 6th grade, which means this is her 8th consecutive year and plans on playing for many years to come. She started on the Junior Varsity team her
freshman year and finished playing on the Varsity the other three years. Tessa has been captain for almost all of her teams and she has proudly brought her high school team to two State Championships. Along with those, she was nominated All-League both her junior and senior year of high school. All six of her club seasons she has played for teams older than her age group, which has definitely pushed her skills and her work ethic. Tessa started coaching when she was in 7th grade. She began helping out with her fellow boys’ team during their season and she realized how much she loved it. She has coached at the middle school level for a few years. Currently, she is floor captain at San Diego City College and has been nominated for Pacific Coast Athlete of the Week twice. She also leads her college team in both kills and digs for the season. Tessa strives to push herself so that can earn a scholarship to play at a four year university in Texas where she plans to study Sports Psychology.
